Apple has quietly removed the Clips video editing app from the App Store, signaling the end of development for the once-promising tool.A new Apple support document confirms that Clips will no longer receive updates adn is unavailable for download by new users.
Existing users will retain access to the app and can redownload it through thier Apple account, but the app is effectively end-of-life for anyone without prior installation.
The support document details instructions for current users to export their Clips projects and individual videos to their photo library or other storage locations.
Launched in 2017, Clips initially garnered attention for its user-friendly interface and features like support for Memoji, Animoji, and LiDAR-enabled augmented reality effects. Though, updates became increasingly infrequent in recent years, focusing primarily on bug fixes. This latest proclamation confirms Apple is sunsetting the app.
While Clips demonstrated potential as a simplified video editor, it ultimately appears Apple has decided to focus resources elsewhere. Despite its discontinuation, the app leaves behind a legacy of accessible video creation tools for those who embraced it.
