Apple Annie Day returns Sept. 26, Benefiting Scottsboro Students and Community
SCOTTSBORO, Ala. – The Scottsboro Woman’s League will host its annual Apple Annie Day fundraiser on September 26, offering freshly picked apples in exchange for donations that support local scholarships and nonprofit organizations. Members, recognizable in their signature red tights and striped aprons, will be stationed at Cadence Bank, the Jackson County Courthouse, and Bruce’s Foodland in Scottsboro from 8 a.m.to 4:30 p.m.This year’s Apple Annie Day will feature both Golden Appetizing and Fuji apples, sourced from Scott’s orchard in Hazel Green.Donations can also be made via Venmo.
Founded in 1968, the Scottsboro Woman’s League is dedicated to promoting arts, education, good goverment, international affairs, moral and spiritual values, and philanthropy. Apple Annie Day is one of the League’s key annual projects, alongside the Apple Annie presale and the Mistletoe Market.”Through donations, the Scottsboro Woman’s League is able to provide scholarships to high school graduates each year and contribute funds towards many local nonprofit organizations as well,” explained Cheyenne Bennett, club parliamentarian.
The League currently comprises 30 appointed members,each serving a ten-year active term before transitioning to sustainer status. New members appointed this year include Kaitlin Bonner, Elizabeth Clark, Ciara Word, Elizabeth Blizzard, Sara Grace Carson, and Carleigh Glover.leading the League for the 2025-2026 term are Beth Weldon, president; Savannah Boykin, vice president; Colby Bradford, secretary; Holly Patterson, treasurer; Audrey Bergman, historian; Cheyenne Bennett, parliamentarian; and Lindsey Dill, chaplain. Additional members include Melissa Hamilton, Beth Watson, Suzanne Chapman, Trish Kennedy, Marcae Arnold, Molly Sellers, Morgan Bone, Nikki Holt, Stephanie gilbert, Kelly Blevins, Lindsey White, callie guillory, Ashley Campbell, Laura Teal, rose Keller, Tasha Mitchell, and Kadi Noble.
Bennett, completing her tenth year with the League, reflected on the association’s impact: “All of our members have families and careers yet still commit themselves to serving the people of this community. There’s truly no greater blessing than serving others in a volunteer role while getting to minister to each other along the way.”
