Antonio Brown Arrested on Attempted Murder Charge Following Florida Shooting
former NFL star Antonio brown was arrested on a charge of attempted second-degree murder after being extradited from Dubai,United Arab Emirates,to face a Florida arrest warrant. The charge stems from a shooting incident following a celebrity boxing event in Miami on May 16.
U.S. Marshals took Brown,37,into custody in Dubai,according to Miami police spokesperson mike Vega. He was then transported to Essex County, New Jersey, adn is currently being held pending extradition to Miami.
Authorities allege Brown grabbed a handgun from a security staffer after the boxing match and fired two shots at Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, with whom he had engaged in a prior fistfight. Nantambu told investigators one bullet grazed his neck.
An arrest warrant was issued on June 11, prompted by witness statements and video evidence, leading to the U.S. Marshals’ extradition efforts. A conviction on the attempted second-degree murder charge carries a potential sentence of up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
Brown, who last played in the NFL for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021, previously spent 12 years as an All-Pro wide receiver, primarily with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Throughout his NFL career, he recorded 928 receptions for over 12,000 yards and 83 touchdowns.
In a post on his X account, Brown claimed he was “jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me,” and that he was initially detained by police before being released after explaining his side of the story. He stated his intention to pursue charges against his alleged attackers.
