Lviv, Ukraine – Ukrainian authorities have launched a murder ​investigation ​following the shooting death ⁤of ⁤Andriy Parubiy, a former​ President of the Ukrainian Parliament, on Saturday.​ The 54-year-old politician was shot on a street in ​Lviv, prompting widespread condemnation and expressions of grief from Ukrainian leaders.

Parubiy’s death comes as‍ Ukraine continues to defend against ongoing Russian aggression. A prominent figure in ​Ukrainian politics, Parubiy previously served as Secretary of the National Security and defense Council⁢ and played a key role in coordinating security efforts during the early stages​ of the conflict in eastern Ukraine. His career⁣ spanned from activism to high office, consistently advocating for Ukrainian⁤ sovereignty and independence.

According to the Ukrainian prosecutor’s ⁤Office, the perpetrator is being sought​ for purposeful murder. Reports indicate the assailant approached Parubiy while riding an‌ electric bike, opened fire, and fled the scene.⁤

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy ⁢called the incident a “terrible murder” ‌and extended​ his condolences to Parubiy’s family. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiha described Parubiy as a “patriot and statesman” who had⁣ “greatly contributed ​to the⁢ protection​ of Ukraine’s freedom, independence and sovereignty.”

Ruslan Stefanchuk, ⁣the current speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament, posted on his official Facebook page that Parubiy was a ⁢”consistent defender of ‌Ukrainian statehood.”
