Andrea Antonelli Crashes Limited-Edition Mercedes-AMG GT 63

Formula 1 driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli was involved in a single-vehicle accident Saturday night near his home in Serravalle, San Marino, Mercedes confirmed Tuesday. The 19-year-old Italian was unharmed in the incident, which occurred while he was driving a Mercedes-AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+ Motorsport Collectors Edition.

According to a statement released by the Mercedes Formula 1 team, Antonelli alerted police to the crash. “We can confirm that Kimi was involved in a traffic accident on Saturday night close to his home in San Marino,” the team said. “The police attended the scene, after being called by Kimi. His was the only car involved and while his vehicle was damaged, Kimi was completely unhurt.”

Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport reported the vehicle initially collided with a roadside post before impacting the central reservation barrier twice and ultimately coming to rest against a wall on the opposite side of the highway. The report indicated the crash spanned approximately 144 meters.

The accident occurred just days after Antonelli received the keys to the limited-edition vehicle, a high-performance model with a hand-painted Petronas-inspired exterior. The AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+ Motorsport Collectors Edition is a highly exclusive car, with only 200 units produced and is valued at over 200,000 euros, according to industry sources.

Despite the damage to his vehicle, Antonelli is scheduled to participate in the Formula 1 pre-season test in Bahrain this week, where he is expected to share driving duties with teammate George Russell. He will drive the Mercedes W17 on Wednesday.

This is not the first incident involving the Antonelli family and law enforcement at a Formula 1 event. Last year, Antonelli’s father, Marco, was investigated by Bologna prosecutors after a minor collision with a police officer while attempting to access the Imola circuit during the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
