The Threat Unveiled
An examination was launched after authorities discovered disturbing Snapchat messages. these messages indicated a plan to place bombs throughout the school and included a school shooting threat. The Albany Police Department took swift action to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Immediate Response and Investigation
Officers were dispatched to Myers Middle School around 8 p.m. Tuesday. A comprehensive sweep of the building was conducted using a K-9 unit on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. The purpose of this search was to ensure the building was safe and free of any immediate danger.
The Albany Police’s Children and Family Service Unit identified the 13-year-old student as the individual responsible for the threatening messages at Myers Middle School.
Charges Filed
The student was taken into custody and faces serious charges. she has been charged with one count of Making a Terroristic Threat and one count of Aggravated Harassment in the 2nd degree. Due to her age, her name will not be released to the public.
The student is scheduled to appear at Albany County Probation at a later date.
