Al Jazeera: Trump Board of Peace fails to secure stability in Gaza after one year

Al Jazeera: Trump Board of Peace fails to secure stability in Gaza after one year

October 10, 2026 Lucas Fernandez – World Editor World

One year after a US-brokered ceasefire began in Gaza on October 10, 2025, Donald Trump’s Board of Peace has failed to secure lasting stability or stop ongoing Israeli attacks, according to Al Jazeera, leaving millions facing severe hunger.

United States President Donald Trump first proposed the Board of Peace (BoP) in September 2025 to stabilise Gaza and ensure lasting peace. In November, a United Nations Security Council resolution recognised the board as a transitional administration in Gaza. The board’s mission was tied to a 20-point Gaza peace plan and a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas that began on October 10, 2025.

Goals and Failures of the Board of Peace

The peace plan envisioned a credible pathway to Palestinian statehood, requiring Israeli forces to withdraw to about 50 percent of the Gaza Strip, cease aerial and artillery bombardments, release Palestinian prisoners, and reopen border crossings for aid. It also required Hamas to release all Israeli captives, eventually disarm, and receive amnesty or a safe exit. An International Stabilization Force led by the US was supposed to take over security.

However, other goals have only been partially met.

Continuing Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza

Aid remains heavily restricted. According to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) hunger monitor, about 227 aid trucks enter the Strip daily when 600 trucks were supposed to. Israel has classified thousands of basic items—such as tents and ventilators—as dual-use items and restricted their flow. The IPC noted that about 1.4 million Palestinians will suffer hunger until at least December.

In February, BoP members met in Washington, DC, for a first summit with a $1bn annual membership fee, pledging $7bn in funding, though aid agencies stated reconstructing Gaza would cost closer to $70bn.
