Large-Scale Checks in Ahlhorn Target Labour Law and tax Compliance

Ahlhorn, germany – On Friday evening, approximately 100 personnel from customs, police, the Oldenburg district, and the municipality of Großenkneten conducted a complete inspection of ten businesses – bars and shops – in Ahlhorn, focusing on potential violations of labor laws and tax regulations.

The operation, which began at 7:30 p.m., centered on Wildeshauser Straße and “Am Lemsen,” and examined employee registration, minimum wage compliance, and other labor standards. Inspectors also checked for adherence too regulations related to restaurant operations, commercial law, and safety standards.

While the majority of checks revealed no irregularities, customs officials did uncover several violations. One kilogram of untaxed shisha tobacco was seized from one business, leading to a tax criminal investigation. Additionally, undeclared coffee from the Netherlands was found in two other establishments, resulting in the recovery of owed coffee tax and the imposition of a customs surcharge. Authorities also secured potentially counterfeit documents from a safe in another business for further investigation.

Six business document reviews were conducted, and 16 individuals were interviewed regarding their employment conditions.

“We want to ensure that fair working conditions are observed and that there are no illegal structures at the expense of employees and honest companies,” stated Hendrik Raytarowski, Head of Financial Control of Undeclared Work at the Oldenburg Main Customs Office.

Stephanie Grotheer, Head of the Oldenburg Head Office, emphasized the efficiency of the collaborative effort. “Operations such as this in Ahlhorn show that cross-governmental reviews of commercial objects have a high level of efficiency. these joint controls are also generally advantageous for the tested companies, because this means that several individual checks are summarized and the frequency of the operating interruptions is reduced to a lower level.”

Wildeshauser Straße was temporarily closed during the inspections, which concluded around 9:30 p.m.
