Spain is in mourning following the railway disaster near Adamuz, Córdoba, which has claimed the lives of at least 39 people and injured over one hundred more, according to reports from RTVE.

The high-speed train derailment, which occurred on January 19th, 2026, has prompted a national outpouring of grief and a comprehensive investigation into the cause of the accident. RTVE is providing continuous coverage of the tragedy, with correspondents reporting live from Adamuz. Alejandra Herranz is currently on the ground, and Pepa Bueno will lead further special reports, including expert analysis and interviews.

The scale of the disaster marks it as the most serious rail accident in Spain since the 2013 Alvia train crash in Angrois, Galicia. RTVE’s coverage extends across its various platforms, including La 1, Canal 24 horas, RNE, RTVE Noticias, RTVE Play, and social media channels.

RNE has also deployed its key program hosts to the area, with Juan Ramón Lucas reporting for ‘Las mañanas de RNE’ and Carlos Núñez contributing from ‘Mediodía en RNE’. The network’s portal, RTVE Noticias, is offering minute-by-minute updates on the situation.

Programming on La 1 has been adjusted to accommodate a special report from Adamuz presented by Alejandra Herranz, followed by further updates in the Telediario 1 news broadcast. A further special report, led by Pepa Bueno, is scheduled for 20:25 hours, promising in-depth analysis and interviews.

Beyond the immediate aftermath, RTVE has announced it will broadcast live coverage of the state funeral mass, which will be presided over by the King and Queen, on January 29th.

While attention remains focused on the tragedy in Adamuz, concerns regarding the conflict in the Middle East and the safety of Spanish citizens in potentially affected areas are also prominent in the news agenda, as reported by 101TV. The Spanish government has denied requests from the United States for military support to facilitate a potential Iranian attack via the Morón and Rota bases.

International condolences have been received following the accident, as reported by YouTube sources, though specific details of those expressions of sympathy remain limited.
