Slayyyter, the 29-year-aged Los Angeles-based artist, released her new single “OLD TECHNOLOGY” on Tuesday, February 24, as a precursor to her upcoming studio album, WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA, scheduled for release on March 27.
The track, produced by Yakob, is accompanied by a self-directed music video. According to an official release, “OLD TECHNOLOGY” is described as “a hard-hitting anthem that perfectly embodies her self-proclaimed ‘iPod music’ era.” The visual aesthetic draws inspiration from Tumblr, incorporating recurring motifs such as iPods, baseball bats, rabbits, and antlers, all central to the WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA era.
Slayyyter detailed her artistic vision for the album in a Tumblr post, stating, “The sound is purely me. People are going to try to compare it to current artists which is soooOoooo annoying and annoys me already but micro trend terminology has no place here. This new music is truly the essence of me. Soft and sweet, nasty and vicious, heavy and fast. Im rapping im SPITTING im singing my heart out tapping into my full vocal range its real instruments its electronic its punk its indie electro its sad its funny its clever its dark its bitter. Its when u put an ipod on shuffle and u hear a track by U2 then m.i.a then kid cudi back to back but they all feel sonically related. It’s the album i was born to make and took many years of sharpening my skills and gaining live music/stage experience to create.”
“OLD TECHNOLOGY” follows the release of previously shared tracks from the album including “DANCE…”, “CRANK”, “CANNIBALISM!” and “BEAT UP CHANEL$”.
WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA will include fourteen tracks: “DANCE…”, “BEAT UP CHANEL$”, “CANNIBALISM!”, “OLD TECHNOLOGY”, “CRANK”, “GAS STATION”, “YES GODDD”, “UNKNOWN LOVERZ”, “OLD FLING$”, “I’M ACTUALLY KINDA FAMOUS”, “$T. LOSER”, “WHAT IS IT LIKE, TO BE LIKED?”, “*PRAYER*”, and “BRITTANY MURPHY.”
Slayyyter is scheduled to perform at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California on April 10 and 17, and at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Corona, New York on June 5.
