Los Angeles, CA – February 13 saw a convergence of NBA stars and celebrities at the LA Convention Center for the Baby2Baby NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service, where volunteers assembled 1.3 million essential items for children in require. The event, part of the NBA All-Star Weekend festivities, drew participation from prominent figures across sports and entertainment.

Giannis Antetokounmpo headlined the volunteer effort, joined by fellow NBA players including Tyrese Maxey and veteran Baron Davis. Celebrities such as Lizzo, Kelly Rowland of Relationship Goals, and Taylour Paige similarly contributed their time to the cause, focusing on assembling Baby2Baby’s Maternal Health & Newborn Supply Kits, supported by Huggies.

Beyond the direct service component, NBA All-Star Weekend included a series of related events. Karl-Anthony Towns and his fiancée, Jordyn Woods, attended the “Legendary Tip-Off Celebration” at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures on February 13, an event that attracted high-profile attendees including Queen Latifah, Octavia Spencer, and former President Barack Obama.

Chase Freedom leveraged the All-Star Weekend to launch “Cashback Courts,” a fan-focused initiative combining basketball, food, and family entertainment, with participation from Kevin Hart, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Chris Paul. The event aimed to extend the spirit of giving back beyond the volunteer efforts, according to Just Jared.

The NBA’s commitment to grooming extended beyond the court, as NBA legend Brandon Jennings partnered with Darrell Spencer, CEO of Crowned Skin, to establish a grooming partnership with the National Basketball Players Association’s PLYRS House in Los Angeles.

Literary discussions also took place during the weekend, with actor Michael Ealy engaging in an intimate conversation with former NFL executive and White House staffer Michael Leach at The Gathering Spot LA on February 16. The discussion centered on Leach’s new book, Faith Over Fear.

Highlighting the growing international influence of basketball, the Africa All-Star Soirée, hosted by Boris Kodjoe and Eliot Dupuis at Lucia LA, celebrated the continent’s rising prominence in the sport. The event focused on the Basketball Africa League (BAL) and its new franchising model, which for the first time allows outside investors to acquire team ownership, as reported by EBONY Magazine.

The NBA All-Star Weekend’s blend of on-court competition and off-court community engagement continues, with the BAL’s franchising model poised to reshape the landscape of professional basketball in Africa.
