Winter Olympics Day 12: Canada Eyes Gold, Men’s Hockey Quarterfinals & Full Schedule

Canada’s Mark McMorris is poised to compete for a fourth consecutive Olympic medal in men’s snowboard slopestyle on Wednesday, as the nation seeks to extend a recent run of success at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. After eight days without a gold medal, Canada has secured victories on three consecutive days.

The Canadian men’s hockey team will likewise be in action, facing Czechia in the quarterfinal round following a dominant performance in the group stage. Czechia advanced after a 3-2 win over Denmark on Tuesday.

Competition begins with Marion Thénault in women’s aerials, with qualification rounds scheduled between 4:00 a.m. And 7:30 a.m. ET. Thénault has achieved two silver medals on the World Cup circuit this season.

The men’s snowboard slopestyle final, featuring both McMorris and fellow Canadian Cam Spalding, is set for 5:20 a.m. ET. McMorris, a three-time Olympic bronze medalist in the event, recently won the slopestyle competition at the Winter X Games, bringing his total medal count at the event to 25. Spalding was the World Cup season champion in slopestyle last season.

Team Brad Jacobs, already assured of a semifinal berth with a 6-1 record, will face Italy at 8:05 a.m. ET. Also in curling, Team Rachel Homan will compete against Italy at 1:05 p.m. ET, aiming to improve their 4-3 record and secure a playoff spot.

William Dandjinou will compete in the men’s 500m short-track speedskating event, with heats beginning at 2:15 p.m. ET. Courtney Sarault will anchor the Canadian women’s short-track team in the 3,000m relay final at 2:51 p.m. ET, seeking her fourth medal of the Games.

Elsewhere, the alpine skiing schedule includes the women’s slalom, with the first run at 4:00 a.m. ET and the second run at 7:30 a.m. ET, featuring Canadian entries Laurence St-Germain, Ali Nullmeyer, Amelia Smart, and Kiki Alexander. The women’s biathlon 4x6km relay is scheduled for 8:45 a.m. ET, with the Canadian team consisting of Pascale Paradis, Shilo Rousseau, Benita Peiffer, and Nadia Moser. Team sprint events in cross-country skiing will also take place, with qualification rounds beginning at 3:45 a.m. ET for women and 4:15 a.m. ET for men.

The men’s hockey quarterfinal bracket also includes Germany versus Slovakia at 6:10 a.m. ET, Finland versus Switzerland at 12:10 p.m. ET, and the United States versus Sweden at 3:10 p.m. ET.
