Visa Issues Cancel Portland Ovations Performances by African Dance Group & Flip Fabrique

Performances by two international entertainment groups have been canceled or delayed in Portland, Maine, due to visa complications, according to Portland Ovations, the organization that books events for the city.

The dance troupe Les Ballets Africains, based in Africa, was scheduled to perform but will not be able to enter the United States after their visa applications were denied. Portland Ovations confirmed the cancellation of their performances.

Separately, the Canadian-based acrobatic troupe Flip Fabrique has postponed the start of its U.S. Tour due to delays in receiving visas for its performers. The group’s initial performances in Portland have been canceled according to reports.

The visa issues impacting these groups are part of a broader trend affecting Maine venues, with other performances similarly facing cancellations or delays. The Portland Press Herald reported that venues across the state are grappling with similar challenges in securing visas for international artists, including those from Canada.

As of Thursday, February 12, 2026, the specific reasons for the visa denials and delays remain unclear. Neither the U.S. State Department nor the Department of Homeland Security have issued public statements addressing the situation. Portland Ovations has not indicated when, or if, the performances will be rescheduled.
