Japan’s New PS5 Model Sees Sales Dip in First Full Week
Tokyo, Japan – Sales of Sony’s recently released Japan-specific PlayStation 5 model have declined during its first full week on the market, according to data released by Famitsu. From November 24th to November 30th,the console sold 17,491 units – a decrease of nearly 6,000 units compared to the initial launch period of roughly two to three days.
The new PS5 model was introduced as a more affordable option for Japanese consumers, priced at ¥55,000 (~$350) compared to the standard version’s ¥72,980 (~$473). However, this price reduction comes with limitations: the console is region-locked to Japan adn requires a Japanese PlayStation Network (PSN) account, restricting its usability outside of the country. Despite the lower price point, the first full week of sales figures represent a downturn from the initial consumer response.
The Nintendo Switch 2 dominated console sales in Japan during the same period, with 97,677 units sold. Here’s a breakdown of the full sales data for November 24th to November 30th:
- Switch 2 – 97,677
