Tiny Companion Robot mirumi Now Available for Preorder on Kickstarter
LAS VEGAS, NV – mirumi, the adorable companion robot first showcased at CES 2025, is now available for preorder through a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign. Developed by Yukai Engineering, the small, furry bot is designed not for practical tasks, but to bring joy through simulated inquisitiveness and a charming personality.
Originally unveiled alongside new TVs, robovacs, and smart glasses at the tech conference earlier this year, Mirumi distinguishes itself from othre robots by intentionally lacking a functional purpose beyond companionship. The robot features a pair of arms designed to attach to bags or handles, allowing it to “look around” by turning and tilting its head.It also uses a distance sensor to detect people, focusing its gaze and reacting with bashful movements when approached.
Yukai engineering initially anticipated a price point of around $70, but global economic shifts have adjusted the cost. Early Kickstarter backers can preorder Mirumi with gray, pink, or ivory fur for 18,360 yen (approximately $118 with discounts). The crowdfunding price will increase to 21,803 yen (around $140) as the campaign progresses, before reaching a full retail price of $150.
Despite being available for preorder, shipping isn’t expected to begin until April 2026, and potential delays are possible, as with any crowdfunded project. Mirumi is positioned as a unique choice to functional robots focused on tasks like cleaning floors or mowing lawns, offering rather a simple, comforting presence.
