Giessen, germany A vehicle drove through a blockade during a protest Saturday in Giessen, Germany, as a new ​afd youth organization held a founding meeting.

Footage posted by AfD Berlin shows the car following⁣ an ambulance. Demonstrators reportedly drummed on the vehicle’s hood and chased it, resulting ⁢in a broken rear window.

A police spokesperson‌ for central Hesse stated no organized convoys were known to be operating in the area at the time. Police are examining video footage of the incident, which occurred around 9 a.m. in Lahnau-Atzbach, where at least one ⁢rear window​ was damaged.

The incident occurred amidst broader demonstrations related to the AfD youth meeting, which resulted in injuries to both police officers and protestors. Ten police officers sustained minor ⁢injuries, and preliminary reports indicate 26 demonstrators were⁤ injured.

Federal Interior Minister Alexander ⁣Dobrindt, speaking at a CDU state party conference in Leipzig, emphasized the right to⁣ demonstrate while also expressing ​concern over violence, stating, “Demonstrating is a fundamental right… Gathering is also⁢ a fundamental right… but I have the greatest respect for the police officers on duty ‍when I see how masked people… approach the police ⁢with a willingness to use violence.”
