Highlands Priest Gains Millions of Followers with TikTok Ministry
Inverness, Scotland – A Roman Catholic priest serving in the Scottish Highlands has become a viral sensation, reaching millions globally thru his engaging TikTok videos blending faith, humor, and everyday life. Father James Anyaegbu, based at a parish in the Inverness Diocese, is using the social media platform to connect with a wider audience and share his message of hope and inclusivity.
Father Anyaegbu’s TikTok account has garnered a substantial following, attracting viewers from diverse backgrounds. He regularly posts short videos offering reflections on scripture,answering questions about faith,and showcasing the realities of parish life. His approachable style and willingness to embrace modern technology have resonated with younger generations,while his positive message appeals to a broad demographic.
Beyond his online presence,Father James recently graduated with an HND in Counselling and Psychotherapy from UHI Inverness,a qualification he believes will enhance both his online and offline pastoral work. “it was a special moment for me,” he said. “I have been studying almost continuously for years, but this one felt different. Wearing the gown made it real and joyful.” The course equipped him with modern tools to understand people’s needs and communicate with greater sensitivity, skills he intends to utilize as he continues his academic journey with an MSc in Psychology.
Father James also dedicates time to charitable work,recently visiting Langata women’s Prison in Nairobi,Kenya,with the Faith-Chat Platform team. He acknowledges the challenges of balancing his studies, parish duties, and burgeoning social media presence, but credits the supportive environment at UHI Inverness and his parish community for making it possible.
