Peace Talks in Florida Offer Hope for Ukraine, US Senator Says
hallandale Beach, Florida – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio described negotiations for peace in Ukraine as positive, stating the goal is to create a path forward that leaves Ukraine “sovereign, autonomous and prosperous.” The talks, held in Hallandale Beach, Florida, involve representatives from the United States, Ukraine, and European countries, and center around a twenty-eight-point plan drafted by the U.S. to end the fighting.
Rustem Umerov, head of the Ukrainian delegation, expressed gratitude for U.S. support, stating, “The US hears us, the US supports us, the US is walking by our side.” He affirmed that Ukraine is focused on protecting its interests and securing “real peace…and reliable, long-term security guarantees.” Umerov also shared on social media that the delegation has “clear instructions and priorities.”
The U.S. plan, initially prepared after consultations with Russian officials, reportedly includes notable concessions from Kiev and has been described by some as “pro-Russian.” president Donald Trump indicated the document was modified following recent negotiations.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi stated he expects today’s talks to “complete” the results achieved during previous negotiations in Geneva.
The discussions occur as Ukraine enters its fourth year defending against Russian aggression, facing both military advances and a domestic corruption scandal in the energy sector. Ukrainian officials are reportedly attempting to revise aspects of the U.S. proposal perceived as favorable to Russia.
Alongside Rubio in the talks were Witkoff and Jared Kushner, son-in-law to President Donald Trump.
