Sony Launches 200MP Lytia 901 Sensor, Aiming⁢ to Compete with Samsung in Mobile ‌Camera Technology

JAKARTA – Sony has entered the high-resolution mobile camera sensor⁢ market with the release of ⁢its first 200MP sensor, the ‌Lytia ⁤901. The new sensor is positioned to ⁣directly challenge Samsung’s existing line of 200MP sensors for smartphones.

The Lytia 901⁣ boasts ‌a‌ 1/1.12-inch⁤ size with a diagonal of 14.287 mm and ‍individual pixels ⁣measuring 0.7 μm. Sony asserts the sensor delivers ‌high-definition images,‌ even when utilizing its 4x in-sensor zoom capability.

A key feature of ⁢the Lytia 901 is ‌its ⁣Quad-Quad Bayer Coding ‌(QQBC) configuration. This⁢ groups 16 pixels ‌(4×4) by color, processing them as a single unit⁤ equivalent to 12.5MP. Remosacing technology restores the pixel arrangement to its original format when zooming.⁢ Notably,Sony⁣ has integrated ⁤AI-based processing circuitry directly into the sensor – an industry first – to enhance the accuracy of fine details like patterns and text. This also enables high-quality video ‍recording at up‌ to 30fps with 4x ⁤zoom at 4K resolution.

To improve image quality, the sensor incorporates DCG-HDR‌ technology and a Fine12bit ADC, increasing bit depth from 10 to 12 bits. Hybrid Frame ‍HDR⁤ (HF-HDR)‍ provides a dynamic ‍range exceeding 100dB in QQBC mode, suppressing highlights and preserving detail in darker areas to more closely replicate human vision.

The lytia 901 supports⁤ video recording up to 8K at 30fps and ⁣4K at 120fps. Shipments to cellphone manufacturers ‍are scheduled to begin this month, with the Oppo Find X9 Ultra and Vivo X300 Ultra⁤ rumored ‍to be among ‌the first devices to adopt the new sensor.
