ADDIS ABABA – The Marburg virus outbreak in Ethiopia is intensifying, with the Ministry of Health reporting a grim milestone: five confirmed deaths. This marks a 50% fatality rate among those infected, raising serious concerns about the spread of this highly hazardous pathogen.

As of late Saturday,the total number of confirmed cases has reached 10,with two additional infections identified after laboratory testing of seven suspected cases. Health authorities have been diligently investigating 53 suspected cases since the outbreak was first confirmed on November 14th in Jinka town, located in southern Ethiopia.
Currently, five individuals are receiving treatment at healthcare facilities across the country. Ethiopia is facing its first-ever Marburg virus outbreak, prompting a swift and coordinated response from the government and international health organizations.
