US Considers Leaflet Campaign in Venezuela to Increase Pressure on Maduro
CARACAS – The United States government is reportedly considering a “psychological operation” involving the distribution of leaflets over Caracas,Venezuela,to escalate pressure on President Nicolás Maduro to leave power. According to sources cited by The Washington Post, the leaflets would advertise the $50 million reward offered for information leading to Maduro’s arrest and conviction.
The potential operation comes as diplomatic efforts continue, including a planned meeting between Ukrainian peace plan delegates and U.S. Senator Marco Rubio. It also coincides with maduro’s 63rd birthday, November 23rd, and follows reports in The new York Times of prior negotiations-rejected by the U.S.-regarding a potential departure from power within two years.
The move is part of a broader strategy that includes a reinforced U.S. military presence in the Caribbean and Latin America, framed by the Donald trump Administration as its ‘Lance of the South’ operation and a counter-narcotics effort. Maduro has characterized this deployment as an attempt to remove him from power, prompting increased military preparedness exercises within Venezuela.
On November 22nd, the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued an international notice urging ”extreme caution” when flying over Venezuela and the southern Caribbean Sea. Several airlines, including Iberia, TAP, Gol, and Avianca, subsequently suspended flights to the country. However, Venezuelan airline Avior announced it would maintain its national and international flights, while Colombian airline Wingo stated it would continue normal operations.
