Martin Škrtel Steps into Coaching Role at spartak Trnava Following Miša Ščasny’s Departure
Trnava, Slovakia – Martin Škrtel, former Slovakia national team captain and current Sporting Director of Spartak Trnava, has transitioned into a coaching role following the departure of head coach Miša Ščasny.The move, announced today, is intended to provide an immediate emotional and mental boost to the team, according to Škrtel.
Škrtel acknowledged the difficulty of the decision, emphasizing his close professional and personal relationship with Ščasny, whom he originally brought to Spartak.”It was not an easy decision,even from a personal point of view. I was the one who chose Miša Ščasny to Spartak.We have created not only a professional but also a friendly relationship. Unfortunately,life and football also bring such moments,” Škrtel stated.
The club opted for a swift change, believing it was the “most effective” solution to address the team’s needs. Škrtel will join the existing implementation team, comprised of Patrik Durkáč and Mário Auxt, both of whom have prior head coaching experience.He stressed a collaborative approach, stating, “Every decision, planning or analysis will be in consultation with them and will also be on their shoulders.”
Škrtel, while new to coaching, intends to leverage his experience as a player and sporting director. “I haven’t had coaching experience yet,there are other things I can definitely help our coaches with. They can also help me with other things,” he explained.
The immediate challenge for Škrtel and the team is an away match against Košice, who are also navigating a coaching change.Škrtel believes the key to success in Košice will be the players’ mental fortitude. “The task we set ourselves is to prepare the team mentally. What happened affected every player and person working for the club…The match in Košice will be about how the players manage it in their heads.” Preparation for the košice match will focus on mental preparation today, followed by tactical analysis on Thursday and Friday.
