Madrid – Real Madrid midfielder Franco Mastantuono has publicly praised teammate Vinicius Jr.,highlighting not only the Brazilian’s skill on the field but also his positive influence within the team’s locker room. The 18-year-old Argentine, who joined Real Madrid from River Plate this summer for a reported €45 million, has quickly integrated into the squad and earned playing time under coach Xabi Alonso.
Mastantuono’s comments offer a contrasting viewpoint to recent criticisms leveled against Vinicius Jr., especially regarding displays of frustration when substituted during matches. Having made 12 appearances for Madrid this season, scoring one goal and providing one assist,Mastantuono has gained firsthand insight into Vinicius’ character. He asserts that the winger is a valuable leader and a positive force despite occasional outbursts.
“Vinicius is an extraordinary person who received a lot of criticism for his behavior, but he brought joy to the dressing room and was always ready to play,” Mastantuono stated, as quoted by Football Espana. “Of course, he would be angry, like all of us, if he was taken off. Maybe that was not the right way to handle it. Though, he immediately admitted it and knew that he was very crucial for the team and was one of the captains. He apologized, and that was it. Things like this happen in football.”
Mastantuono emphasized Vinicius’ willingness to accept criticism and his immediate remorse following any displays of anger, underscoring the winger’s commitment to the team. The young midfielder expressed his overall happiness at playing alongside the stars at Real Madrid and the valuable lessons he is learning from them.
