Sam Kerr expected to Join Matildas squad for New Zealand Matches
Chelsea forward Sam Kerr is anticipated to be available for the upcoming Matildas internationals against New Zealand, despite being rested from her clubS recent matches. Kerr, recovering from an injury, played a full 90 minutes against St Polten in the Women’s Champions League last week, scoring twice.
Chelsea manager Emma Hayes indicated Kerr was being managed carefully following that match. “Sam is fine, she will probably be going with the national team next week, but she’s not available for us again,” Hayes said. “It’s just a case of managing her comeback. She got 90 minutes against St Polten and it was part of the plan for her to rest a little bit after that and not be involved in the following two games.”
Matildas coach Joe Montemurro confirmed Kerr is “doing really well” and that Chelsea are assisting with managing her playing time. ”She got 90 minutes during the week in the Champions League last week, obviously scoring goals, and that’s where we want Sam to be,” Montemurro stated. “But she still needs to be managed, and we’ve been in close contact with Chelsea in terms of managing the minutes.”
Australia will face New Zealand in Gosford on november 28 and in Adelaide on December 2.
