The Federal Aviation Governance (FAA) has issued a temporary flight restriction (TFR) over portions of Puerto Rican airspace, effective immediately and lasting through November 21, citing military operations. The restrictions impact airspace within a 10 nautical mile radius of Luis muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, as well as areas surrounding the Roosevelt Roads and Ceiba airports.
The FAA notice, released November 16, comes amid a heightened U.S. military presence in the Caribbean, including the recent arrival of the USS Gerald R. Ford, the world’s largest aircraft carrier.while the specific purpose of the military deployment remains undisclosed,it is occurring alongside increased U.S. pressure on Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, who is currently facing a $50 million reward offered by the U.S. for information leading too his capture on drug trafficking charges. Pilots are advised to check NOTAMs (Notices to Air Missions) for updated information and to avoid the restricted areas. The TFR is intended to ensure the safety of air operations during the military exercises and deployment.
