Plauru,Romania – Residents of the Romanian village of Plaur are being evacuated after a Russian drone strike damaged a gas tanker in Ukrainian waters,creating a “serious risk of explosion” in the area,Romanian authorities announced. Between 100 and 150 people are subject to evacuation, with officials urging residents to follow recommendations including traffic restrictions and detour routes.
The incident stems from a large-scale Russian drone attack on the Odesa region of Ukraine Monday night, targeting energy and port infrastructure, and damaging several civilian vessels. Debris from thes attacks has repeatedly fallen on Romanian territory, and Bucharest has previously reported Russian drones entering its airspace via the Danube River during attacks on Ukraine. Russia denies obligation, claiming such incidents are Ukrainian provocations, citing a similar event in September that prompted the launch of Romanian F-16s and two German Air Force Eurofighter Typhoons.
Oleh Kiper, head of the Odesa military governance, confirmed the attack on the region’s infrastructure.The Romanian Emergency Situations Agency issued a statement warning of the explosion risk and initiating the evacuation procedures.
