PARIS – Actress Léa seydoux will officially launch the annual Christmas lights on the Champs-Élysées in Paris on November 16th at 6:30 p.m., the Champs-Élysées Committee announced Wednesday. The lighting ceremony,a Parisian tradition since 1980,marks the start of the holiday season and draws tourists from around the globe.
Seydoux will be joined by children from the Petits Princes association, an organization dedicated to fulfilling the dreams of seriously ill children. This year’s display, designed by Thierry reboul and utilizing technology from Blachère Illuminations, will feature a special five-minute sparkle from the Eiffel Tower in response to the avenue’s illumination. canadian artist Charlotte Cardin will perform her song, Too bad for her, during the event.
The 400 trees lining the Champs-Élysées will be adorned with lights from november 16th through January 4th, 2026, illuminating nightly from 5 p.m. to midnight, extending to 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The committee reports the illuminations now consume the energy equivalent of two average French households annually, a reduction achieved through the use of LED garlands.
Committee president Marc-Antoine Jamet stated the event will balance “tradition and innovation, modernity and classicism,” and anticipates exceeding the 150,000 spectators reached in 2024,leveraging “television media” and “social networks” to broaden the event’s reach.
