German ⁤Women’s ​Ice Hockey Team Wins Germany Cup, Eyes Olympic Success

Landshut, Germany – The German Women’s National Ice Hockey team secured⁣ a decisive 9-1 victory over Hungary today, successfully defending their title at⁤ the Germany Cup in Landshut.The win caps a strong performance‍ for the team, following closely contested 3-2 victories‌ against both ‍France and Slovakia earlier in the tournament.

The Germany Cup victory ​underscores a period of significant growth for German women’s ice hockey, marking their first Olympic qualification‍ since 2014. “Exactly what we have worked on and achieved ‌in recent years,” stated Sandra Abstreiter, ⁣a player currently competing in⁢ the North‍ American PWHL league.

Captain Daria Gleißner echoed the positive sentiment, stating, “I am very happy with the game, the result and the atmosphere here.” She also acknowledged the challenges ahead, noting the team​ is focused on optimal preparation for the‍ upcoming ​Olympics. “We ‍all know what kind⁤ of season lies ahead of ‍us…we can⁤ now look positively into ⁤the future and prepare⁣ ourselves optimally for the⁣ Olympics.”

Head Coach Jeff macleod highlighted the importance of the team’s winning mentality. “Winning,of course,” he said,when​ asked about key takeaways⁤ from ‍the week. “It’s not ‌easy no matter who you play.And ‍winning back-to-back, winning‍ in tough times, ⁣winning against really good competition.” MacLeod expressed his satisfaction with the team’s progress, ⁢stating he was “very happy with the developments over ​the last ⁢week.”

The team showcased promising talent throughout the tournament, ⁣including a standout performance from 16-year-old debutant Mathilda Heine, who scored two goals. While some key ‌players currently competing in North America ​were absent, the full team is expected to convene in December for final preparations.The DEB selection will face Austria in a series‍ of test matches on December 13th and 14th, before ​heading⁤ to Milan in February for the Winter Olympics.
