Dresden, Germany - April 21, 2024 – A record-breaking field of over 10,000 runners participated in teh 24th Dresden Marathon today, navigating a revised course necessitated by the ongoing impact of the 2023 Carolabrücke collapse. The event showcased both elite athleticism and community spirit, drawing participants from around the globe.
The marathon’s route was altered at short notice due to the damaged Carolabrücke,a important landmark and former crossing point for the race.Despite the logistical challenges, the event proceeded smoothly, celebrating endurance and determination. This year’s marathon marks a significant moment for the city, demonstrating resilience and a continued commitment to sporting events.
In the men’s race, Julis Kiprono Tarus of Kenya secured victory with a time of 2:14:44 hours. The marathon weekend includes a celebratory party for up to 500 attendees behind the Heinz Steyer Stadium on Friday evening, requiring admission tickets. While the traditional noodle party will not take place this year, a marathon fair at the BallsportARENA, adjacent to the stadium, will be open from Friday to Sunday, featuring exhibits on endurance sports, health, fitness, nutrition, and travel.
