Microsoft Confirms Continued Game Support for Nintendo‘s Next-Gen Console
Microsoft plans to continue releasing select titles on Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 console, Xbox head Phil Spencer confirmed in a recent interview wiht Famitsu. The commitment signals Microsoft’s broader strategy to expand access to its games beyond the Xbox ecosystem.
This move builds on Microsoft’s existing efforts to lower barriers to entry for players through services like Xbox Play Anywhere and Game pass, while acknowledging a demand for its titles on competing platforms. Spencer stated, “We’re working to lower the barriers to entry and let more people play our games…However, if there are people who want to play our games on PlayStation 5 or Nintendo Switch 2, we would like them to be able to do so on those platforms.” the announcement comes as Bethesda has already confirmed Fallout 4 will launch on the Switch 2 in 2024, demonstrating a concrete example of this cross-platform approach.
Microsoft highlighted the collaborative relationship with both Sony Interactive entertainment and Nintendo, which has facilitated this expanded distribution. While no specific titles beyond Fallout 4 have been confirmed for the Switch 2,the news fuels speculation about potential ports of other popular franchises, such as Halo.
