Remains of Polish Comedy Icon Marek Perepeczko Exhumed; Family Expresses Shock
Warsaw, Poland – 2024/05/16 – The remains of beloved Polish actor and comedian Marek Perepeczko were exhumed from the Powązki Cemetery in Warsaw on May 16, 2024, nearly 25 years after his death. The unexpected exhumation has deeply unsettled his extended family, who were reportedly unaware of the proceedings until contacted by authorities.
Perepeczko, renowned for his roles in films like Vabank and Sexmission, died on may 28, 1999, leaving behind a legacy as one of Poland’s most cherished comedic performers. The exhumation was initiated following a request from Perepeczko’s son, Piotr, who sought to relocate his father’s remains to a different section of the cemetery. However, the process revealed that the urn contained not ashes, but construction debris. This discovery has prompted a formal investigation by the Warsaw Prosecutor’s Office into the circumstances surrounding the original interment.
According to reports,Piotr Perepeczko became suspicious after noticing discrepancies in the documentation related to his father’s burial. He formally requested the exhumation to verify the contents of the urn. The family was reportedly “in shock” upon learning the urn did not contain their relative’s remains, according to Plejada.pl.
The Warsaw Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed the investigation, stating they are treating the case as a potential violation of regulations concerning the respectful treatment of human remains. Authorities are currently working to determine how and when the substitution occurred and identify those responsible. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to be released as they become available.
