Trump Interacts with Argentine Journalist During UN Press Conference
During a press conference at the United Nations, Donald Trump engaged with an Argentine journalist following a speech he delivered to an audience of approximately 158 world leaders. The event was marked by a technical difficulty – the teleprompter malfunctioned, with Trump noting, “They killed him. They didn’t let the man who operated it enter.”
The interaction with the press occurred as reporters attempted to ask questions, initially interrupting one another. Trump intervened, suggesting, “Why don’t we talk about argentina first?” when an Argentine journalist finally gained the floor, she asked, “Are you worried about China‘s influence in Argentina?”
However, Trump responded by placing a finger to his lips, signaling her to stop speaking. The journalist quietly responded, ”Sorry.” He then directed a question to another reporter.
The press conference also included the presentation of a letter to Trump from the families of Argentine hostages recently freed. The letter expressed gratitude for Trump’s role in achieving peace in the Middle East, which facilitated the release. Argentine Foreign Minister Gerardo Werthein noted the letter had been revised following the peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians. The letter was presented in a gold frame with detailed embellishments.
The letter, later shared by the President’s Office, read in part: “We write to you today with hearts overflowing with joy. After 738 days of darkness and suffering, Our loved ones are at home today…you gave us back the light that we thought was lost. Gathered our family and restored our hope.” The families of Eitan Horn and David and Ariel Cunio emphasized that Trump’s leadership “marked us across oceans and borders” and demonstrated “true leadership…guided by values, conviction and compassion.” They also thanked President Milei for his support.
