Colombian Activists Detained in Israel: Deportation and Human Rights Concerns

Colombian Officials‌ Report detained‍ Activists Denounced lack of Food and Water

JERUSALEM – ‌Colombian authorities have reported that Mannuela and ‌Luna, two women detained as part of the Global Sumud Flotilla, have reported a lack of food and water while held in a Saharonim penitentiary center in southern Israel. The detention,‍ following an interception in international waters, has been denounced as irregular by the Colombian⁤ delegation accompanying the humanitarian mission.

The incident underscores escalating tensions surrounding access to Gaza, where a genocide is currently underway according to the Colombian government. The Global Sumud⁤ Flotilla attempted to deliver humanitarian aid⁤ to Gaza, but its vessels‌ were besieged by Israeli⁢ forces. The detention of the activists, and the reported denial ‌of basic necessities, raises concerns about human rights violations and further complicates international efforts to provide aid to the besieged territory.

Colombia’s Foreign Ministry has reiterated its condemnation of both the ongoing situation in Gaza and the capture of ⁤the civil vessel. Officials stated the detained women and other ⁤members of the flotilla have been denied contact with their legal team⁢ since their ‌arrest.‍

Prior to their detention,‌ members of the⁢ ships reportedly discarded their cell phones into the ⁢sea for security ⁢reasons amidst ⁣the siege ⁤by Israeli vessels. mannuela and Luna remain⁣ in the Saharonim facility, located near the border with Egypt,as of today.
