Eggesin, Germany – A gas leak prompted an evacuation and emergency response in Eggesin on October 1st, 2025, after a resident accidentally damaged a gas line while doing home repairs. No injuries were reported.
the incident occurred at approximately 3:40 p.m. at a row house on karl-Marx-Str. in the 17367 Eggesin postal code. Preliminary investigations indicate a 74-year-old tenant and a neighbor inadvertently struck a gas line between the ground floor and basement with a drill during handicraft work, resulting in a continuous gas leak. Police officers from the Ueckermünde station responded to the scene, finding both the resident and his neighbor already outside the affected property. As a precaution, one individual from a neighboring row house was evacuated.
A representative from the regional gas provider secured the main gas supply, allowing the Eggesin volunteer fire brigade – deploying two vehicles and ten emergency personnel – to inspect the gas pipes for further damage. no additional damage was found, and the gas provider will oversee the repair of the damaged line. Once the escaped gas dissipated and the area was deemed safe, residents were permitted to return to their homes.
