ISTANBUL,Turkey - Fenerbahçe head coach Domenico Tedesco revealed his departure from the club following a 2-0 victory over Ankaragücü at Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium on Sunday. The announcement came as a surprise after the Turkish Süper Lig win, prompting questions about the future leadership of the Istanbul-based football club.
Tedesco’s exit marks a notable shift for fenerbahçe, one of Turkey’s most historically successful teams. The coach addressed questions regarding assistant coach Gökhan Gönül’s absence from the bench, clarifying it wasn’t a disciplinary matter.”I didn’t know him before.Sometimes things may not go as you wish. There was no special situation,” Tedesco stated. He emphasized Gönül’s legendary status at Fenerbahçe and announced no plans to seek a direct replacement, instead highlighting the capabilities of current staff member Zeki, stating, “He has been in this club for many years, is a good person, and a very good coach… It is very good for us that his duty increases.”
Tedesco also addressed Anderson Talisca’s self-reliant decision to take a penalty during the match. He explained the process involves the goalkeeper coach consulting with players to gauge thier willingness, noting that Talisca expressed confidence and a desire to take the spot-kick. “His desire to take the penalty showed confidence and character.
