U.S. Visa Revocations Possible for Travelers Carrying Prohibited Items in Carry-On Luggage
Travelers attempting to board U.S. flights with prohibited items in their carry-on luggage now face potential revocation of their American visas, according to recent confirmation from the Transportation Security Management (TSA). The policy escalation comes as authorities crack down on attempts to circumvent security protocols, notably concerning blunt objects and other potentially dangerous articles.
The TSA emphasizes that while certain items can be transported in checked luggage, attempting to bring them into the cabin-even if seemingly innocuous or poorly packed-can lead to federal charges, fines ranging from $3,000 to $12,210, and now, possible visa cancellation. Confiscated items are logged into a TSA history, potentially impacting future expedited screening program eligibility, such as TSA Precheck.
Specifically, the TSA regulates blunt objects, which are secured in special lock containers during transport within the aircraft. Other prohibited items include sharp objects, cutting tools, and disabling devices. Explosives, flammable liquids, and reactive materials remain strictly forbidden without exception.
The agency stresses the importance of declaring any potentially questionable items to the airline and obtaining necessary permits before boarding. Failure to comply can result in severe consequences for international travelers.
