BSI Applauds Extended Windows 10 security Updates, Urges Swift ⁢Action

The‌ german⁣ Federal Office ⁤for Facts Security (BSI) has welcomed Microsoft’s decision to continue ⁤providing free ‍security updates for Windows 10 users ‍in Europe, emphasizing the importance of a timely transition to supported operating systems. While acknowledging the grace period ⁢offers users additional time, the BSI ⁢stresses proactive measures are crucial to maintain robust cybersecurity.

Despite the approaching end of official support, Windows 10 remains surprisingly prevalent in ⁢Germany.Recent statistics indicate roughly half of all systems still operate on the decade-old operating system, leaving a notable user base⁣ potentially vulnerable to emerging threats. The BSI doesn’t maintain ‍independent figures on German Windows 10 usage but recognizes the continued reliance on the platform. “Users are given a little more‌ time to strive for an operating ‍system that is supplied ‌with security updates in the long term,” a BSI spokesperson stated.

The extended updates, announced by Microsoft, aim to address concerns about security risks for those unable to immediately upgrade to Windows 11. Though, the BSI cautions that this is a‍ temporary solution and encourages users to plan for a long-term operating system⁢ strategy⁢ to ensure ongoing protection.
