Senate confirms John Jovanovic as President and Chairman of US Export-Import Bank
WASHINGTON D.C. – The U.S. Senate on September 18 confirmed John Jovanovic as the next President and Chairman of the Export-import Bank of the United States (US Exim), solidifying a key appointment by the Trump management. The vote was 51-47, falling along party lines.
Jovanovic, nominated by President Trump in March, will lead the agency responsible for financing U.S. exports and supporting American jobs. He has pledged a “bold new era” for the bank, focused on prioritizing American industry and ensuring fair treatment for U.S. companies globally. “Our mission is clear: more exports, more jobs, a stronger America. Now let’s get too work,” Jovanovic stated in a video released September 19.
Prior to his appointment, Jovanovic served as Chief Strategy Officer at Asplundh Tree Expert until July. His previous experience includes roles at Nova Fleet, Mercuria, and the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), where he was a Managing Director for the Western Balkans from September 2020 to March 2021.
In a statement last week, Jovanovic outlined his vision for Exim, promising to “move faster, deliver smarter, and ensure US workers never fight with one hand tied behind their back.” He emphasized collaboration with the Administration, Congress, and the private sector.
Jovanovic succeeds interim chair spencer Bachus, who took the helm following Reta Jo Lewis’ departure in January. Under Bachus’ leadership, the agency has continued to operate, recently approving $4.7 billion in financing for a Mozambique LNG project – a decision currently facing legal challenges – and lifting restrictions on support for coal-fired power projects.
Jovanovic is married to Daphne Oz, daughter of television personality Dr. Mehmet Oz, a supporter of President Trump who currently serves as Administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
