Venezuelan Boy, 4, Dies in Colombia After Alleged Abuse by Stepfather
Medellín, Colombia - September 16, 2024 – A four-year-old Venezuelan boy, Nairkel Botía, has died in Medellín, Colombia, after suffering severe injuries from alleged abuse by his stepfather, Cristian Alexis González, also known as “alias Lampo.” Medellín Mayor Federico Gutiérrez confirmed the child’s death on Sunday,September 14.
González is currently facing legal charges including simple kidnapping, falsehood in document, and drug trafficking. Initially detained on charges of tentative homicide and aggravated domestic violence,the prosecution announced it will modify the attempted homicide charge to aggravated homicide,potentially increasing the severity of the sentence. González has stated he does not accept the charges.
Authorities allege González not only controlled the child’s mother but also the boy’s biological father, Adrián Botia, forcing him to live with them and participate in drug sales originating from their home. Botia escaped to Caracas, Venezuela, and lost contact with his son. The mother is reportedly receiving support from police and women’s and children’s protection agencies in Medellín after experiencing physical and psychological abuse.
Following confirmation of his son’s death, Adrián Botia has appealed for assistance in repatriating Nairkel’s body to Venezuela. “I demand justice. I ask that they help me see if my son can return to Venezuela, to ensure him in his land. We are doing our best to move my son. Help me see my baby for the last time,” Botia stated.
González is accused of leading a production and trafficking operation for the criminal group “Los Mondongueros.” The case is ongoing.
