Gaza Genocide: NGOs Demand Urgent UN Intervention

Gaza crisis Deepens: NGOs Demand Urgent⁤ International Intervention Following UN Genocide Declaration

More than twenty NGOs are urgently calling on UN countries to intervene in Gaza after a UN commission concluded that Israel is committing acts of ⁢genocide ‌within the enclave. Representatives from organizations including Doctors Without Borders, the Norwegian Council for‍ Refugees,⁣ Care ⁣International, save the Children, and Oxfam International issued a statement demanding that⁣ “Member States must ⁤use all ⁢political, economic and legal tools at their disposal.”⁢ They emphasized that “rhetoric and medium measures are not‍ enough” in ‍the face of this crisis.

The call for action‍ follows a report from an ‌independent UN‍ Human ‍Rights Council⁢ commission finding evidence of‌ at ⁣least four of‍ the five acts defined as genocide under the 1948‍ Convention for the Prevention and Sanction of the ‌Crime of Genocide.

The situation in Gaza is⁣ catastrophic. NGOs warn that “thousands of⁣ lives are at ‌stake,” particularly for the approximately one million people remaining in the capital city amidst ‌the ongoing israeli ‌offensive.⁣ Over half a million people are facing starvation as the Israeli army ⁤continues a six-month siege, severely restricting access to food, fuel, and medicine.

The Health Ministry in Gaza reports at least 428 deaths due to hunger and‌ malnutrition, including 146 children. NGOs are witnessing desperate measures for survival, with families resorting to consuming “food of unpleasant animal origin or boiling leaves to feed⁣ their children.”

Humanitarian efforts are being severely hampered. Organizations report “obstruction in each⁤ step,” citing denial ⁤of access and the “militarization of the help system” as contributing to the mounting death toll. Gaza Health figures indicate⁤ nearly 2,500 people have died and over⁢ 18,000 injured while seeking humanitarian ‌aid at ‌distribution points or ‍near military checkpoints.

The ngos implore all parties to cease violence against civilians, uphold international humanitarian law, and prioritize peace. The crisis began following ⁢the Hamas attacks of October 7, 2023, and has‌ since resulted in approximately 65,000 deaths, including more than 19,400 children. (EFE)
