UAE Voices Strong Support for Qatar, Condemns Israeli Strike at UN
Geneva, Switzerland – The United Arab Emirates has unequivocally voiced its solidarity with Qatar following a recent Israeli attack in Doha, firmly denouncing the action as a breach of international law and a threat to regional stability. The UAES position was delivered during an urgent debate convened by the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, requested by both the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
The incident, targeting Hamas leaders, has raised notable concerns about escalating tensions in the region and the security of GCC member states. The UAE’s intervention underscores the interconnectedness of Gulf security and the potential ramifications of actions that violate the sovereignty of nations within the bloc. this debate arrives at a critical juncture, as regional stakeholders navigate complex geopolitical challenges and strive to maintain peace.
Jamal Jama al Musharakh, the UAE’s Permanent Representative to the UN and other international organisations in Geneva, characterized the Israeli strike as a direct violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and a serious escalation with far-reaching consequences. He emphasized that the attack not only contravenes international law and the UN Charter but also represents a “grave violation of the core principles of human rights.”
Al Musharakh further stressed the integral link between Qatar’s security and the overall safety of the GCC, stating that any aggression against a member state is tantamount to an attack on the collective Gulf security framework. The UAE representative also extended sincere condolences for the loss of a Qatari security officer during the strike, reaffirming the UAE’s full support.
Concluding remarks from Al musharakh highlighted the dangers of further instability fueled by inflammatory rhetoric, urging adherence to the principles enshrined in the UN Charter. He cautioned that the region “cannot afford further escalation,” emphasizing the need for de-escalation and diplomatic solutions.
