Mexico City – A large-scale vaccination drive to combat a recent surge in measles cases will take place this Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at the University Olympic Stadium of the National autonomous University of mexico (UNAM). The “mega vaccination center” is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Health (SSA), the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), and other health units.
This initiative addresses a growing public health concern, as Mexico has confirmed 4,353 measles cases through epidemiological week 35 of this year. The campaign aims to protect individuals aged six months to 49 years, a demographic particularly vulnerable to the highly contagious virus. Attendees are requested to bring their National Health Card to facilitate the vaccination process. The vaccination center will operate from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM each day. Data from the SSA reveals that Chihuahua currently reports the highest rate of measles notifications. Within the confirmed cases, the 4-year-and-under age group accounts for 13.5 percent (586 cases), closely followed by the 25-to-29-year-old demographic with 13.3 percent (578 cases).
Epidemiological data also indicates a slight prevalence of cases among females, representing 51.9 percent (2,259 cases) of the total, while males account for 48.1 percent (2,094 cases). Health officials emphasize the importance of widespread vaccination to curb the spread of measles and prevent further complications.
