Telefilm Canada Launches Call for Submissions to First Cut Lab Canada 2026
MONTREAL - Telefilm Canada today announced the opening of applications for First Cut Lab Canada 2026, a workshop designed to support the post-production of Canadian feature films with international potential. The deadline for submissions is October 15, 2025.
First Cut Lab Canada provides selected projects with expert feedback and guidance to refine their editing and overall cinematic impact. The program is open to feature films with a minimum duration of 75 minutes that are new or recent and have not been publicly screened. Projects at the initial assembly phase are strongly encouraged.
Submissions require video equipment – selected scenes, a first assembly, or a temporary assembly – available via a password-protected streaming service like Vimeo, for a minimum duration of 30 minutes and subtitled in English. Projects unable to provide video equipment by the deadline may still apply and perhaps negotiate a later submission date.
Selected directors and producers are required to be available for the duration of the LAB, with the editor’s presence recommended. Participating films must credit First Cut Lab and Telefilm Canada in their end credits with a specific statement and logos.
