Apple Watch Ultra 3 Offers Incremental Updates, Fuels Calls for Design Overhaul

CUPERTINO, CA – Apple’s latest Apple Watch Ultra 3, unveiled today, delivers modest improvements to battery life and charging speed while maintaining the same core chip as recent models-the S10, equivalent to the Apple Watch SE 3 and Series 11. The update has intensified discussion around the need for a more substantial redesign of Apple’s smartwatch line.

The watch Ultra 3 boasts 42 hours of battery life, a six-hour increase over the Ultra 2. Charging times have also been reduced, achieving 80% capacity in 45 minutes, down from one hour, and providing 12 hours of use from a 15-minute charge. However, the S10 chip offers no significant performance gains over its predecessors. While new band styles are available, the overall look and functionality of the Ultra 3 remain largely unchanged from previous iterations. This incremental approach comes as competitors increasingly innovate in smartwatch design and features.

These updates follow a trend of iterative improvements to Apple’s smartwatch designs, which have remained largely consistent for several years. According to sources, Apple’s smartwatches are due for a “proper revamp,” wiht the current designs showing their age despite new color and band options.

New features, including a sleep score and hypertension monitoring, were not fully demonstrable during initial hands-on testing and require further evaluation. The Apple Watch Ultra 3 is now available for purchase at amazon.
