FBI Investigates Shooting Death of Conservative Activist Charlie Kirk
Following a shooting incident on Wednesday,October 9,2025,at Utah Valley University,the FBI is conducting an investigation. Conservative activist Charlie Kirk, 31, died after being shot in the neck during an event as part of his ‘american Comeback Tour.’
Kash Patel, head of the Federal Investigations Bureau, confirmed that a suspect was briefly detained in connection with the shooting but has since been released following police interrogation. Patel emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing, stating, “Our investigation continues and we will continue to disseminate information for the sake of clarity,” and clarified that the suspect’s release does not signify the case’s closure.
The FBI is collaborating with the Utah State Police,who are currently analyzing closed-circuit camera footage obtained from the university campus to identify the suspect. authorities have not yet released the identity of the suspect or potential motives for the attack, keeping multiple lines of inquiry open.
According to the FBI, the detained individual cooperated with agents during questioning and was held for several hours.
The incident occurred around 12:20 pm during an outdoor event where Kirk was engaging in a debate with individuals holding differing political viewpoints.
Following Kirk’s death, former President Donald Trump issued a statement via social media, promising to find those responsible. Jack Posbic, a political commentator and collaborator with Kirk’s Turning Point USA organization, expressed grief and warned of potential repercussions, while Steve Bannon, a former advisor to Trump, characterized the shooting as part of a broader “political war” unfolding in the United States. Similar sentiments were echoed by Jesse Watters on Fox news, who stated, “They are at war with us.”
Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was a prominent figure in the American conservative youth movement and a vocal supporter of Donald trump. He was transported to Tampanogos Hospital in Orem,Utah,in critical condition,where he was pronounced dead.
