Approximately 450 officers are scouring challenging terrain – including bushland, caves, mineshafts, and properties – surrounding Porepunkah, as the investigation enters its fourth day.The incident has deeply impacted the close-knit community, prompting discussions about financial support and raising questions about the events leading up to the shooting.The deaths of Leading Senior Constable Kevin King and Constable Glen Humphrys have triggered an outpouring of grief and concern across Victoria. The shooting, and subsequent manhunt, has disrupted daily life in the region, impacting local businesses and casual workers. Premier Jacinta Allan visited the area and discussed financial assistance with the local mayor, recognizing the broader economic consequences beyond immediate trauma. Investigators are also examining footage of the moments before the shooting, obtained from a Freeman family member, which depicts officers at the doorway of Freeman’s home.
Police are weighing all available options in the ongoing search, according to Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Bob Kelly. “We are utilising every resource available to us to locate Dezi Freeman and bring him to justice,” Kelly stated. He described the circulating footage of the incident as “distressing and disappointing,” acknowledging the pain it has caused the families of the fallen officers and their colleagues.
The footage shows officers speaking with Freeman at his property before the shooting occurred. Authorities are analyzing the video as part of their investigation. Nicholas, the local mayor, described discussions with the Premier regarding support for the community as “positive,” noting the impact on both businesses and the casual workforce.
