Second Harvest of Silicon Valley Targets 2027 Opening for New San Jose Headquarters
SAN JOSE – Second Harvest of Silicon Valley is anticipating a 2027 opening for its new headquarters and distribution center, consolidating operations currently spread across three locations.the complex will be located at 4553 and 4563 North First Street in San jose’s Alviso district.
The food bank, one of the largest in the nation, acquired the land for the new facility through $50.2 million in purchases over recent years, including a $37.2 million acquisition in 2022 and a $13 million deal finalized in June.
According to Second Harvest, the 215,700-square-foot facility will “enable Second Harvest…to unify most of its operations…under one roof.” The institution stated in an email, “The organization will be able to distribute more nutritious food to more neighbors facing food insecurity, respond swiftly in times of crisis, and ensure the food bank remains a reliable source of support for the community.”
The project’s size was scaled back from an initial proposal of 249,200 square feet – a reduction of 13% – following a lawsuit filed by a community group challenging the city of San Jose’s original approval of the advancement.
Second Harvest views the new complex as “a new chapter in the organization’s mission to end hunger in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties.”
