WNBA Star Angel Reese Makes Feature Film Debut in ‘A House of Dynamite’
VENICE, ITALY – WNBA star Angel Reese has made her feature film debut in A House of Dynamite, a new thriller from director Kathryn Bigelow, which premiered Tuesday evening at the 82nd Venice film Festival. The Netflix film garnered an 11-minute standing ovation following its world premiere in the Sala Grande theater.
Reese, a current player for the Chicago Sky and recent Vogue cover girl, joins a cast including Idris Elba, rebecca Ferguson, Anthony Ramos, and Jared Harris in the politically charged film. Her cameo appears in the third and final chapter, following a White house briefing where Elba’s character, the President of the united States, is informed his next agenda item is an ”Angel Reese” event.
The film depicts the unfolding crisis after a single,unattributed missile is launched at the United States,triggering a high-stakes race to identify the perpetrator and prevent further devastation.In the scene featuring Reese, the President visits Liberty Arena, where she is on the basketball court with a group of young girls. Elba’s character then engages with Reese and the girls, discussing the impact of sports, before being urgently called away to address the escalating national emergency.
A House of Dynamite, penned by Noah Oppenheim, will open in select theaters in the U.K. on October 3, globally on October 10, and stream on Netflix beginning October 24. this marks Reese’s latest foray into the entertainment world, following appearances in music videos for NLE Choppa’s “Champions” and Latto featuring Cardi B’s “Put it on Da Floor Again.”
Upon news of her role breaking, Reese acknowledged the reveal on social media, retweeting The Hollywood Reporter’s story with the message, “Welp the cat is out the bag.”
