SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA – June 12, 2024Blackpink‘s explosive hit “Pink Venom” has officially surpassed 800 million views on YouTube, cementing it’s status as one of the group’s most triumphant music videos. The milestone comes as the quartet continues its global BORN PINK world tour and individual pursuits.

“Pink Venom” is Blackpink’s sixth music video to achieve this impressive feat, joining “DDU-DU DDU-DU,” “Kill This Love,” “BOOMBAYAH,” “AS IF IT’S YOUR LAST,” and “How You Like That.” lisa’s solo track “Money” and Jennie‘s “Solo” also boast over 800 million views, further demonstrating the immense popularity of Blackpink members both as a group and as individual artists.

Released on August 19, 2022, “Pink Venom” served as the lead single from Blackpink’s critically acclaimed second studio album, Born Pink. The song debuted at number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, marking the group’s highest-charting single at the time. Born Pink itself ascended to the number one position on the Billboard 200 albums chart, becoming the first K-pop girl group album to achieve this honor.

Upon its release, “Pink Venom” shattered records, becoming the biggest 24-hour music video debut of 2022, amassing 100.9 million views within its first day. This performance positioned it as the third-largest 24-hour music video debut in YouTube history, surpassing previous records held by artists like Taylor Swift and BTS. The video initially broke the record previously held by Blackpink’s own “How You Like That” for the most-viewed music video by a female artist or group within 24 hours.

The visually striking music video was directed by Seo Hyun-seung, a frequent collaborator with Blackpink, known for his innovative and dynamic style. The video opens with Jisoo performing a traditional Korean geomungo piece, set against a backdrop of a futuristic, virtual reality-inspired scene. The choreography, a blend of powerful and graceful movements, was crafted by Kiel Tuten and Sienna Lalau, who have also worked with prominent acts such as Twice and BTS. Filming took place in various locations across South Korea, including a set designed to resemble a traditional Korean palace.

“Pink Venom” garnered notable industry recognition, winning Best music Video at the 2022 MAMA Awards (held in Osaka, Japan on November 29-30) and Best Choreography at the 2023 MTV VMAs (held at the Prudential center in Newark, New Jersey on September 12). The song’s success contributed to Blackpink being named Global Artist of the Year at the 2022 American Music Awards.
