The future of the Power Rangers franchise felt uncertain following the 30th anniversary, with rumors of reboots stalling and Hasbro exploring new avenues for the beloved series. Even with a new era announced for Disney+, live-action content has been scarce. However, fans are getting a colorful surprise as the Power Rangers make their digital debut in Fortnite.
Mighty Morphin Mayhem Arrives in “Shock ‘N Awesome”
Epic Games has officially announced that the Power Rangers will be the first major collaboration for Fortnite‘s upcoming “Shock ‘N Awesome” season. The season, which kicks off this week, will introduce a Starship Troopers-inspired alien invasion to the game’s island. Players will soon be able to wield the power of the Mighty Morphin team, as confirmed in a nostalgic, live-action trailer. The video showcases the Red, Yellow, and Blue Rangers teaming up with familiar Fortnite characters to battle extraterrestrial bugs, set to a remix of the classic theme song.

It’s a peculiar, yet exciting, development that the first new official live-action Power Rangers material since 2023 is for a Fortnite advertisement. The trailer features Jason (or perhaps Rocky) wielding a minigun against giant bugs with explosive effects, all set to a remixed version of the iconic Mighty Morphin theme.
Rangers and Megazords Hit the Item Shop and Battle Pass
While the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers won’t be available at the launch of “Shock ‘N Awesome” on August 7th, Epic Games has revealed that skins for all five primary Rangers, along with accessories and a music pack for the new theme remix, will arrive in the Fortnite Item Shop mid-August. Notably, it appears Tommy Oliver as the Green Ranger will be featured in the season’s battle pass.
Beyond character skins, owners of the new seasonal battle pass can unlock a Dino Megazord skin starting September 16th. This addition ties into a midseason event where players can assume the role of the Megazord, likely allowing them to stomp across the island similar to Fortnite‘s recent Godzilla collaboration.
Fortnite‘s “Shock ‘N Awesome” season is set to launch on August 7th. The game has seen a surge in popularity, with player numbers often exceeding 100 million monthly active users, demonstrating the broad appeal of its collaborative events (Statista, 2023).
